Woven Structure Binding (coursecode: WS-01-18), sold out

We have a waitinglist in case someone has to cancel where you can sign in for.

Thursday 27 - Saturday 29 September 2018

Our guest teacher this time is Jan Peter Zimmerlich from Switzerland.
His aim of getting together creative bookbinding and contemporary conservation interests brought out this interesting technique.
« Neither thread, nor glue ».

The structure allows a good opening.
Perhaps more than in other ways of « new binding » the inside and the main binding work is turned out to become an architecture of sober lines.
A good point of this binding is its reversibility. Signatures can easily be taken out or be replaced.
Woven structure can be applied to single and multiple signature books as to bookobjects.
Indirect weaving on guards is very fitting for conservation binding but also gives endless opportunities to add non bookbinding but nevertheless sometimes functional elements.
The goal of this masterclass is to learn to handle different tools in order to discover and develop a simple and at the same time sophisticated and precise way of working as the least manipulation remains visible.
Be prepared for three days full of new ideas, experimentation and playing with book structures!

We have a waitinglist you can sign up for.
